As part of this agreement, the Owner warrants that they are the legal owner and thereby has the right to lease the horse to the Lessee.
As part of this agreement, the Lessee warrants that they have extensive experience handling horses as a rider, trainer, or groomer.
For long-term lease agreements, the care and health of the horse may be the responsibility of the lessee. This involves visits to the veterinarian, good treatment of the horse, vaccinations and necessary medications, etc.
In exchange for this lease agreement, the Lessee will now assume all responsibilities relating to _______ (horse's name). This includes paying all care expenses to ensure good animal husbandry.
These expenses include but are not limited to; boarding, worming, veterinary bills, travel/hauling, trimming, and shoeing.
Care responsibilities also include:
Providing food, water, and shelter Sheltering __________ (horses name) in a clean, safe stall or barn through all seasons Providing access to a safe outdoor space with sufficient fencing for exercise and grazing Regular grooming and hoof maintenance Administrating all medications Upkeeping veterinary appointments Complete maintenance of the horse's current physical and emotional healthThe Owner will maintain the right to visit and inspect the horse or have an authorized agent inspect the horse at any time to ensure the horse is in good health and adequately cared for.

Official ownership of the leased horse shall remain in the name of the Owner. The Lessee cannot sell, sublease or mortgage the horse during this agreement.
Should the leased horse become injured, sick, lost, or unfortunately dies, the Lessee must inform the Owner immediately. Contact should first be attempted via telephone and also reported in writing.
The Owner will maintain all decision-making rights regarding ongoing or life-saving treatments to ensure the health and welfare of the horse.
Where injury or death occurs as a result of natural causes or events that show no signs of negligence on the part of the Lessee, the Owner shall not hold the Lessee liable.
The Lessee will not hold the Owner liable for property damage or personal injury caused by the horse during the lease period.
Unless otherwise stated, this lease agreement is automatically renewable every ______ (month/year).
Should the Lessee want to terminate the lease and return the horse earlier than the agreed period of the lease, the Lessee must provide the Owner with at least ________ notice.
Should the Owner need to terminate the lease earlier than the agreed period, the Owner must provide the Lessee a minimum of _______ notice.
1. The Owner has the right to end this agreement with immediate effect should the Lessee breach the terms of this agreement regarding the care and maintenance of the horse.

You can add test clauses to the contract where the lessee is tested by the lessor to see if he/she is capable of caring for the horse. All modifications of this lease must be reported in writing and distributed to all parties to be considered legally binding. Additional modifications via telephone or in-person contact will be disregarded.
The Lessee and Owner accept all terms and conditions of this horse lease agreement and confirm they have a copy of this contract.
The signer must be of legal age and responsible for what may happen to the equine. Since many competitions involve minors, it’s common for the horse lease agreement to be signed by a parent or guardian.
